Welcome to the Akron Rugby Football Club, founded in 1971

Credit for founding the Akron Rugby Football Club must be given to two transplanted rugby players, Bob Binns and Joe Stollar. Binns was formerly a Fort Wayne, Indiana rugby player and Stollar learned to play rugby at the University of Notre Dame. A meeting to establish the club took place in late 1970 and it was determined a side would be formed to play a spring schedule in 1971.  Little did those two pioneers realize that eight years later, their efforts would lead to a Midwest Rugby Championship.

In 2001, the Women's team was established.

Both teams have grown over the years and are very active int the Akron community to help build the sport of rugby.

Land was purchased, in Copley, at a very good rate in the middle of a neighborhood. The men worked hard to clean up the property and transform it into the x acre rugby property we have today with a pitch, field house and working on second field to provide practice and tournament play.
