Greater Akron Rugby Foundation

Akron Rugby Club was founded in 1971. The Greater Akron Rugby Foundation (GARF) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization formed in 2004 and subsequently incorporated in the State of Ohio.

The purpose of GARF is to promote the participation of athletes in the sport of rugby for the greater Akron/Summit County Ohio area. GARF supports men, women, youth, and senior rugby programs and provides opportunity for athletes, coaches, referees, and supporters to participate without discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, or physical impairment. The organization complies with rules and regulations as set forth by the Ohio Rugby Union, Midwest Rugby Football Union, USA Rugby Football Union, and International Rugby Board. It embraces the sports social and emotional concepts especially those of sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, courage, and loyalty.

OBJECTIVES

GARF’s objective is to support activities of the Akron Rugby Club men’s and women’s teams and affiliated school programs throughout the greater Akron area, promote fundraising for rugby activities, acquire and maintain facilities necessary to play rugby, support and encourage youth rugby, enable touring and educational clinics for the purpose of improving rugby knowledge and skill, and assist organizations affiliated with GARF.
